Wool vs Polyester stuffing

I have used lumpy wool (from my neighborhood sheep guy) to stuff my Cat dolls, but it was bunching up so I switched over to polyester.

I set up a little test between smooth wool and poly stuffing, wanting to see the good and bad of each.

These are the little arms for my next Cat doll who doesn’t yet have a name.

As you can see, they have been stuffed already and look similar.

Too similar! they both are tightly filled, and every little bunch is visible. To me, there are only a few ways in which one is better than the other.

1- Some people are allergic to wool, and no one is allergic to polyester.

2- Plastic for the most part is difficult to break down and so it lasts thousands of years.

Wool on the other hand is natural, decomposable, and easy to use.

3- Wool is so soft compared to the polyester, maybe it’s easier for those who suffer from arthritis.

4- If the polyester doll gets dirty, like dropping it in a puddle, we can submerge the whole Cat in soapy water.

If it’s filled with real wool you may try to spot clean with a soft cloth and soap. Maybe you can take it to a dry cleaners and hope that it comes back.

So this is what I’ve learned about this comparison.

I will use the polyester for Cat stuffing when I plan to sell the Cats, just in case someone’s allergic to wool.

And I will fill my own cat dolls with the wool, which feels nicer on my hands. Plus, I live on a farm and have a large supply of wool, I might as well use it!

I sewed them shut , and although my sewing skills are still in the works, the mess of stitches will be covered by the sleeves anyways.
